Canelo Alvarez and David Benavidez, according to WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman, are "committed and ready," and their current goal is to "make it into the best scenario for everyone."

Although David Benavidez and Saul "Canelo" Alvarez are "committed and ready" to fight, WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman declined to say when their mandatory match will take place.  Benavidez defeated Demetrius Andrade on Saturday night in Las Vegas to earn the biggest victory of his career thus far. It solidified his standing as the top challenger for Canelo's complete belt and marked his second successful defense of the WBC interim super-middleweight title. Although there has been a lot of talk about Benavidez and Canelo meeting around Cinco de Mayo weekend, the WBC has not yet formally named the interim champion as required, giving the two parties 90 days to work out conditions.  Furthermore, Sulaiman disclosed to Boxing News that they are also not in a big hurry to make that decision.   He said: “This is a great fight. Both fighters are committed and ready and we will just play it by ear and administer the process correctly. I’m sure that will be best for ever...

Dan Hardy: “Anthony Joshua’s Probably One of the Better Matchups for Francis Ngannou”

Image
Dan Hardy, the head of fighter operations for PFL Europe and a former UFC fighter, thinks Francis Ngannou would defeat Anthony Joshua in a possible boxing bout. After coming close to upsetting WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury in a 10-round bout, Ngannou has gained notoriety in the boxing community. Ngannou was declared the winner by split decision. Following the fight, Eddie Hearn, Joshua's promoter, expressed interest in setting up a boxing battle between Joshua and Ngannou. Dan Hardy expressed his opinion that Francis Ngannou, who reacts negatively to blows, might be terrible news for Anthony Joshua during an appearance on MMAFighting.com's "The MMA Hour." Hardy said on The MMA Hour that "Tyson Fury stylistically is probably the most difficult for Ngannou to deal with. He is tall, has excellent upper body movement, and plays excellent defense. Then you compare that to someone like Joe Joyce or Anthony Joshua, who may not be able to withstand a punch as well ...

Jermall Charlo On Canelo: “I Hope We Get Him On Cinco De Mayo”

If Jermall Charlo looks good and wins his ten-round battle against the skilled Jose Benavidez Jr. on Showtime PPV this Saturday night, he claims he would like to be the one facing Canelo Alvarez on May 25th, the Cinco de Mayo holiday. Charlo (32-0, 22 KOs) informed the press that, while he was scheduled to face Canelo, the undefeated super middleweight champion, in September of last year, he was not psychologically prepared for the match. He so gave his brother Jermell the benefit of the doubt, and while Jermall did perform admirably, he still hopes to take on Canelo and maybe even settle the score for the Charlo family with a win.   Jermall (32-0, 22 KOs) must defeat Benavidez Jr. (28-2-1, 19 KOs) in their co-feature fight on the David Benavidez vs. Demetrius Andrade show on Showtime PPV on Saturday night in order to advance to a possible fight with Canelo. The 31-year-old Benavidez Jr. appeared to have a serious grudge after getting up twice during today's final press ...

Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury Square Off at the Ferocious Undisputed Title Fight Confirmation Press Conference.

Image
On February 17, during a heated press conference to confirm their undisputed heavyweight world title bout, Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk got into a heated argument and had to be pulled apart. The long-awaited fight between WBC champion Fury and WBO, IBF, and WBA unified king Usyk in Saudi Arabia early next year was confirmed when the two faced off at a press conference in London on Thursday night. After 'The Gypsy King' ignited the spark for the confrontation in Riyadh during a press conference, the two engaged in a heated altercation that resulted in their separation. Fury interrupted Alexander Krassyuk, the promoter of Usyk, and the Ukrainian's manager Egis Klimas, accusing them of being dishonest and promising to strip Usyk of his belts the same manner he did to fellow countryman Wladimir Klitschko in 2015. "You're welcome to be sharing a ring with the future undisputed heavyweight champion - me," Fury stated. " You are all dossers, he's getting kn...

Anthony Joshua Criticizes Tyson Fury

Anthony Joshua didn't like the rude behavior Tyson Fury displayed this week in his interview with the well-meaning True Geordie on YouTube. Fury got mad when Geordie opined that Fury should have chosen a better opponent than Derek Chisora to fight on December 3 on ESPN and BT Sport Box Office at London's Tottenham Hotspurs Stadium. Rather than reasonably agree with Geordie and laugh it off, Fury cursed him out at the end of the interview, and let Geordie know that he wouldn't get a chance to have Fury on his show again. Fury made himself look really bad for going ballistic on Geordie, who basically pointed what the average fan feels about Fury's bad decision to propose beaten 38-year-old worker Chisora as his next opponent instead of a respectable heavyweight that would give fans value for their hard-earned money spent to watch the fight.  It's safe to say that it's been a long time since a world heavyweight champion fought a challenger as poor as Chisora ...

Deontary Wilder's Career

Seasoned boxing observers may have different perspectives on Deontay Wilder. On the one hand, his résumé isn't extensive, and his skill set has consistently come under fire over the years. On the other hand, he is one of the all-time hardest punchers and has recently had one of the longest heavyweight title reigns. Top heavyweights like the "Bronze Bomber" usually make it into the International Boxing Hall of Fame, but ardent supporters will continue to dispute his skill for all time. Here is one viewpoint on Wilder as he gets ready to fight fellow contender Robert Helenius on pay-per-view this coming Saturday at Brooklyn's Barclay's Center. BAD With a remarkable run that featured 10 consecutive title defenses, Wilder defeated Bermane Stiverne to win the WBC heavyweight title in 2015 and retained it until Tyson Fury stopped him in their second bout in 2020. Who did he defeat, though?   It includes Eric Molina, Johann Duhaupus, Artur Szpilka, Chris Arreola, Geral...

Ryan Garcia vs Gervonta Davis

The mega-fight between Ryan Garcia and Gervonta "Tank" Davis, according to Showtime CEO Stephen Espinoza, is "very near" to being set. The Tank-Ryan bout isn't finalized yet, according to Espinoza, because the TV networks need to be worked out. The battle between Tank (27-0, 25 KOs) who fights on Showtime, and Ryan Garcia, who fights on DAZN, doesn't serve the interests of either network for them to share the fight. Espinoza added that there is "a contract in place", but that there were still a few specifics that needed to be worked out. Despite Ryan having a sizable social media following on platforms like YouTube, Twitter, and Instagram, he is still not a big enough boxing star for a fight between him and Gervonta Davis to be one that will be lucrative for both competing networks DAZN and Showtime. What do you think about Garcia’s recent opponents?  Have they been of the caliber she should be going up against or are they old and past their primes...
