Tyson Fury's Father Expresses Concern Over His Son's "declining" Training Camp and Worries that Oleksandr Usyk May Win an Upset Victory

Tyson’s father, John Fury, is concerned about his son's upcoming super fight, but not in the way people think.

Fury voiced worry over his son and his impending heavyweight title unification fight against Oleksandr Usyk in February 2024 in an interview with Seconds Out Boxing. The native Irishman referred to the WBC champion's training regimen as a "circus" and "not a camp."

Fury made a point to express his belief that his son's trainers and crew are more to blame than Tyson being on a "decline."

As stated by John Fury in the interview:

"I never said my son was in decline because he's not. It's the people around him who ain't up to much. His training's in decline and his camp's in a bigger decline. It's not a camp, it's a circus."

Fury went on to claim that because of Usyk's "disciplined" attitude to training, he "absolutely" believes he can win the undisputed heavyweight title bout.

Tyson Fury's trainer since 2019—SugarHill Steward—is the target of Fury's criticism. In 2019, Javan 'Sugar' Hill, the nephew of famous boxing trainer Emanuel Steward, had his name officially changed.

Neither Steward nor Tyson Fury have publicly addressed his father's concerning remarks.

When is the Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk Fight?

On February 17, 2024, Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk will unify the heavyweight titles in a historic bout that is expected to be among the biggest boxing matches in recent memory. The fight is scheduled to happen in Saudi Arabia's capital, Riyadh.

Usyk is the current heavyweight champion of the WBA, WBO, IBO, and IBF, while Fury is the current WBC heavyweight champion. Both fighters have an undefeated record in professional combat; Fury has a 34-0-1 record against Usyk's 21-0 record.

The fight was originally slated to take place on December 23, but it was postponed after Fury defeated Francis Ngannou via split decision in October. Many believed that "The Gypsy King" had seen his prime after Fury and Usyk squared off in the ring following the "Battle of the Baddest."

The British heavyweight champion, Fury, declared his retirement following his victory over Dillian Whyte in April 2022, but he later made a comeback to defend the title against Derek Chisora.
