Tyson Fury's Father Expresses Concern Over His Son's "declining" Training Camp and Worries that Oleksandr Usyk May Win an Upset Victory
Tyson’s father, John Fury, is concerned about his son's upcoming super fight, but not in the way people think.
Fury voiced worry over his son and his impending heavyweight title unification fight against Oleksandr Usyk in February 2024 in an interview with Seconds Out Boxing. The native Irishman referred to the WBC champion's training regimen as a "circus" and "not a camp."
Fury made a point to express his belief that his son's trainers and crew are more to blame than Tyson being on a "decline."
As stated by John Fury in the interview:
"I never said my son was in decline because he's not. It's the people around him who ain't up to much. His training's in decline and his camp's in a bigger decline. It's not a camp, it's a circus."
Fury went on to claim that because of Usyk's "disciplined" attitude to training, he "absolutely" believes he can win the undisputed heavyweight title bout.
Tyson Fury's trainer since 2019—SugarHill Steward—is the target of Fury's criticism. In 2019, Javan 'Sugar' Hill, the nephew of famous boxing trainer Emanuel Steward, had his name officially changed.
Neither Steward nor Tyson Fury have publicly addressed his father's concerning remarks.
