It solidified his standing as the top challenger for Canelo's complete belt and marked his second successful defense of the WBC interim super-middleweight title. Although there has been a lot of talk about Benavidez and Canelo meeting around Cinco de Mayo weekend, the WBC has not yet formally named the interim champion as required, giving the two parties 90 days to work out conditions.
